I had originally intended to post these pictures to Instagram and leave it at that, but  it has been months since my last post, and joyfully, The Color Run struck a chord of inspiration in me, so why not share the experience?

It did not take too long before I fell behind the runners. This was an extraordinary event and every moment caught in my peripheral was a killer photograph.

What held my attention most, was a band of children gleefully pouring the colored powder on one another before tossing what contents remained, up into to the air.

Ask any tourist, and they will tell you, that there’s no other place like Louisiana.  It is a vast green landscape consisting of water and sun; the capital of Jazz, and a vessel for the mighty Mississippi River.  Louisiana is home to a continual stream of celebrations, many of which take place in New Orleans.

It would be nearly impossible for me to imagine Louisiana without the people and spirit of New Orleans. This city is a melting pot of vibrant cultures, unforgettable flavors and soul-tapping music.

When you are immersed in a world of historical, cultural, and culinary character, you’re bound to see something remarkable.

Here are some of the things I, along with BlueKitty, have seen recently on our travels.

Mardi Gras is a celebration in Louisiana known through out the world.  Parades, music, food, and spirits all converge, creating one of the most anticipated holidays on the globe.

Tourist from all over the world appear in droves to partake in the “greatest free show on earth”.

This beautiful celebration owes much of its grandeur to an explosive use of color.  The traditional colors are purple, green, and gold; purple signifies justice, gold; power, and green represents strength.

The dazzling spectrum of colors used during Mardi Gras plays a vital role in this carnival. It overwhelms  your senses in a way that is equally as powerful as the food, music, and wine.

Color can alter your thinking, mood, and oftentimes, sway your reactions. It’s the decisive factor in how we choose everything from an automobile, to a banana.

In summary, Mardi Gras celebrates many things, but above all else, it celebrates…color.

Happy Mardi Gras!
